It started with the collegiate women's 4x100m race at the MT. SAC Relays in Hilmer Lodge Stadium. That three-freshmen-and-one-junior combination pulled out a win for the Trojans on Friday. Not to be outdone, the more experienced Trojan lineup of three upperclassmen and one sophomore pulled out the win in the Elite Invitational section with a time of 42.36.
Dajaz DeFrand, Jassani Carter, Samirah Moody, and Madison Whyte earned the victory in heat 2, setting the new world pace for the year. As shared by the team's social media page, their effort also proved to be enough to be the second-best time in USC history.
They outpaced Duke, who ran in the same heat, by over a second, as the Blue Devils ran a 43.42. UNLV ran in heat 1 and finished third with a 44.29. USC ran in the same heat against athletes from Arizona, San Diego State, and Stanford.
At the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational, an all-freshman team ran and came in second during the women's 4x100m relay. During that meet, however, Carter and Whyte were part of the team that ran and won the women's 4x400m relay in College Station.
Further success in 100m event
Defrand then continued to stack the victories for the Cardinal and Gold as the sprinter won the women's 100m elite dash. The junior ran an 11.35 (11.347) in her narrow first-place finish. She found the extra needed kick to cross the finish line ahead of DoublePillarAthletics sprinter Destiny Smith-Barnett, who ran an 11.35 (11.350). The 0.003 advantage proved to be enough in heat 2 for the Trojan. Jamaica NIKE runner Briana Williams came in third with a time of 11.43. Carter finished sixth with an 11.52.
Heat 1 saw two freshmen, Tiana Eyakpobeyan, cross the finish line with an 11.57, and Olivia Pace came in 10th with an 11.62. It turned out to be another successful day for the Trojans in their events. The continued dominance, even against professionals, shows how strong this roster is across the board.
