Officially the 'B' team, the Trojans freshman on the team continues to impress. On Friday, three first-year runners as well as a junior ran the women's 4x100m relay, coming in first place at the 65th Annual Mt. SAC Relays. Olivia Pace, Mia Brahe-Pedersen, Tiana Eyakpobeyan, and Christine M. Mallard combined for a 43.85 in Heat 2 in Walnut, California.
Last week the same event saw only freshmen sprinters finish second in College Station, Texas. This week their performance earned USC the win as they were able to cross the finish line a full 1.62 ahead of the rest of the field on the day. Cal St. Fullerton came in second at 45.47. UC Irvine came in third with a 45.82. Other participating schools included Cal Poly, Arizona State, and the Arizona 'B' team.
For a meet that started on Thursday that is starting to get into the full swing of things, it was an excellent way for director Quincy Watts to see this track and field roster get underway. Posing with the baton at the end, the team's social media account shared a picture of the four runners, excited with their race-winning performance.
More to follow
With everything to come from Hilmer Lodge Stadium and the incredible string of athletic displays that the Trojan athletes continue to show, it will likely be the first of many posts or records that result from this meet.
The full slate of track events is going to be highly anticipated for those following the team, as this USC roster has proven itself to be among the best in the nation yet again this outdoor season. The current number two-ranked squads on both the men's and women's sides are going to more than live up to that reputation and will likely push to see their standing go up a spot with continued excellence in their respective events.
