Recently both USC track and field squads were ranked No. 2 in the nation after strong performances at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Invitational. Not quite at the halfway mark of the outdoor season, the team is looking very good so far. Naturally, after a big meet, the athletes are seeing a lot of deserved, increased attention.

The Trojans are sweeping during events and have done so again in a different way. As the Big Ten announced the weekly award winners, the Cardinal and Gold filled up all of the graphics, as shared on social media from the BIG X account.

Madison Whyte earned the Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor. After winning the 200m and 400m races at College Station. At the shorter of the two distances, she now has the world and NCAA lead. The sophomore then ran the final leg of the 4x400m relay that also earned a first-place finish. This is the second time that she has earned this recognition, as she also received it earlier in April.

Ashley Erasmus set a meet record in the women's shot put. Her throw reached a mark of 17.63m (57'10¼"). This, along with her seventh-place finish in the discus throw, earned her the conference's Field Athlete of the Week. The freshman has earned this distinction for the second time in her career, as she last won the award in late March.

Brianna Selby completed the sweep with her Freshman of the Week. Her PR during the 100m sprint impressed, as she won the event at this past weekend's meet. She then ran the final leg of the 4x100m relay team that came in second on what was an all-freshmen team. She last earned the distinction in late March.

Rounding out the USC track and field honors

Max Thomas won with a strong finish in the men's 100m event. He was then part of the team that won the 4x100m relay en route to setting a school record. After cleaning house in his events, the Big Ten then awarded him with the Track Athlete of the Week award.

For the USC track and field team, it was the perfect solidification of what proved to be an excellent weekend for the program. Preparing for the Mt. SAC Relays this upcoming weekend, they'll hope to see repeat nominees soon as the Trojan athletes continue to excel.
