USC Projan Caleb Williams may have found the answers to his prayers

In one of the few modern-day occurrences that cannot be anticipated or predicted, the white smoke from the chimneys of the Sistine Chapel ushered in the new era of Pope Leo XIV. Former USC quarterback and current QB1 for the Chicago Bears, Caleb Williams took to social media to celebrate the occasion.

His post of "Daaaaaa Pope" quickly caught storm online. Formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost, now the bishop of Rome, was born in the city of Chicago. While the question of his baseball fandom was soon after settled with a White Sox clarification, His Holiness being from the Windy City appeared to have given something of a spark to Williams following the announcement.

Being the first North American pontiff, actually from one of the 50 United States, gives something of a unified moment for the nation to collectively share, even if Villanova is looking to claim most of the moment for the Wildcats.

In any event, there being a direct link between the product out of USC and a pope is not something anyone would have expected or anticipated prior to today.

For the Bears fan base and those Trojan supporters who continue to follow their former quarterback, Williams appears to be in a good position either way, even before the day's events gave the world something unexpected.

Reason for optimism for former USC man under center

Williams has an offensive-minded coach in Ben Johnson, who most believe will be able to get the best out of the Chicago signal-caller. Add the latest draft and continued roster upgrades since he's moved on to the NFL, and this team could be in a position to make some loud noise in the NFC North.

As is, they are coming off a 5-12 season and would only need to flip a couple of those losses into wins to be over .500, which would be a positive step in the right direction.

And if the once-USC QB receives a little inspiration and perhaps help from someone sitting at the Basilica in Rome, then even better.
