For USC fans actively following Caleb Williams in Chicago, the trade that led to his going to the Windy City has completed its final chapter. In 2023, the Carolina Panthers received the No. 1 overall pick. In return, the Bears were compensated with DJ Moore, a 2023 first and second, a 2024 first, and this year's second-round pick.

The 2024 top overall pick was used on Williams. During the 2025 NFL Draft, the organization gave the former Trojan one extra weapon to use on offense, as they selected Luther Burden III out of Missouri. As a result of the trade, the 39th overall pick for this year was used on a talented wide receiver.

Burden has a strong WR skill set. In particular, his ability to make contested catches and compile a lot of run-after-the-catch yards will likely allow Williams to look his way a lot this upcoming season. He's good at winning off the snap and executing his routes.

Having already drafted Colston Loveland at tight end, first-year head coach Ben Johnson is going heavy on the offensive side of the ball in order to best help his quarterback. In a young WR room, Burden will have a chance to compete for significant snaps early on.

Looking to take that next step

The wide receiving corps still has Moore, who was acquired in the aforementioned trade. Other outside options include Rome Odunze and Samori Toure. D'Andre Swift is the go-to option out of the backfield for this team.

Under an offensive-oriented coach, Williams will look to build on his rookie year. With the personnel additions and coach Johnson bringing his playcalling and play designs to the building, they'll look to turn a couple of last year's losses into wins. The final piece of that infamous 2023 trade is certain to help him achieve that aim.
