USC QB Caleb Williams was right about hypocrisy in Twitter controversy

USC Football QB Caleb Williams was heavily criticized and ridiculed for crying after his two losses to Utah this season.

He was also accused of faking injuries in the Pac-12 Championship Game (his second loss to Utah), despite having to limp up and down the field from the second quarter on (he was up 17-3 before he lost his mobility completely due to his popped hamstring).

Then, the next day, Max Duggan played through pain (but could still move unlike Williams), and cried after he lost his conference championship game. There's nothing wrong with that, and former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III praised how passionate Duggan was after the game during the press conference:

It's interesting how Duggan was praised for showing this emotion, yet Williams was slammed and ridiculed when he did it. It's a hypocrisy that is not the fault of Duggan, but the fault of all those criticizing Williams for being passionate himself. Williams quote tweeted RGIII's Tweet (in a now-deleted tweet), replying "Lol."

And USC Football QB Caleb Williams was right. When he cries, he's seen as a crybaby, but Max Duggan is seen as valiant for crying after the game. Tim Tebow is known as a legend for crying during and after games. Still, many took issue with what Williams said. They took it as him laughing at Duggan, which is quite literally not what he did at all.

"'Lol' means 'laught out loud,'" they said. Yes, and Williams was not 'laughing out loud' at Duggan, but laughing at the idea of Williams crying being a joke and resulting in him being dismissed as a crybaby, and Duggan crying being an addition to his passion for the game. To explain that (although he didn't even need to because it was very obvious), Williams clarified what he was saying via two more Tweets:

Not everybody did criticize Williams when he tweeted "Lol." Those with functioning brains pointed out exactly what Williams was very clearly saying, and Williams retweeted one of those posts from Tom Loy of 247Sports:

Both Williams and Duggan will be competing for the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, as they are two of the four finalists selected for the award. Williams is the front-runner, and will likely win it. Regardless, Duggan had a great season that deserves respect, and Williams most certainly does respect him.

It's a shame that not everybody respects Williams, but when one is the best player in the country, people are naturally not going to like them. Williams beat up on the competition this year, and obviously left some deep scars in college football fans.
