USC football is one of the most successful programs in the history of the college game. So it stands to reason that the iconic Cardinal and Gold jerseys worn by Trojans over the years would be among some of the most accomplished in the nation.

We at Reign of Troy took on the gargantuan task of deciding the best players to have worn each jersey from No. 99 through No. 1.

There have been seven Heisman winners at USC, all of whose jerseys are now out of use. Or six retired and one out of circulation, if you want to get technical. Those were the easy choices.

But the Trojans have had 161 All-American players wear 68 different numbers over the years since Brice Taylor became the school’s first national honoree in 1925. Of those 68 jerseys, exactly half have featured more than one All-American. Those proved much more difficult to separate.

From iconic jerseys to seldom-used numbers, USC’s history features a diverse crop of jersey bests.

We begin at No. 99, when a Trojan was terrorizing Pac-10 quarterbacks at the same time the Great One came to the forefront in Los Angeles.
