Top CFB Insider delivers brutal Jordan Addison update for USC Football
By Evan Desai
College Football Insider Pete Thamel of ESPN has reported on College Gameday that USC Football WR1 Jordan Addison is not likely to play against Arizona. Addison suffered a leg injury in SC's last game against Utah, and was expected to be a game-time decision, according to Trojans Head Coach Lincoln Riley on Thursday.
Addison will most certainly be missed, as he is the same guy who's not only coming off of a Biletnikoff last season, but also has already picked up 585 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns this season. He's the best wideout in football, but at the same time, SC is going up against a horrible defense. He'll be missed, but likely won't be needed for this game.
Arizona is in the bottom eight of all the FBS in points allowed per game. They're surrendering an awful 36.29 points per game. They're legitimately awful in terms of how many yards they're giving up too. They're allowing 454.1 yards per game, which is 14th-worst in the FBS.
While they're better defending the pass than the run, they're still terrible in defending the pass. USC's not going to need Addison to win this game. Arizona is 92nd in the FBS when it comes to pass yards allowed per game at 246.7 passing yards allowed. If there's any game SC can win with Addison on the sideline, this game absolutely is at least in the conversation.
USC Football has other good wide receivers to work with beyond just Jordan Addison.
Even with Jordan Addison out, USC Football still has another top 10 wide receiver on their squad in Mario Williams. As the No. 2 guy this season, Williams has 493 receiving yards. That's of course very good as a No. 2 receiver on a balanced offense that has a lot of weapons it likes to use.
Also, Williams has already proven that he can perform at an elite level with Addison not in the game. Last game was Williams' best game of the year, where he went for 145(!) yards. Clearly, he can handle being the No. 1 when Addison isn't playing. Tahj Washington has also picked up 214 receiving yards for the Trojans this year; showing that he needs to be paid attention to by defenses.
Brenden Rice has also chipped in 187 receiving yards, and was the most dynamic player on Colorado's offense last year. It's only a matter of time before he really breaks out. Heck, even Michael Jackson III proved that he can come in and make a difference with Addison out, as he caught a touchdown pass after Addison left the game against Utah.
Addison is probably not playing for the Trojans today, but that doesn't mean anyone should be expecting a loss, or expecting the offense to struggle against a porous secondary and defense as a whole.
