Mario Williams transfer paves way for USC football to finally bring in Caleb Williams

USC football just landed a major transfer target from the University of Oklahoma in electric wide receiver Mario Williams.

This could be quite the game-changer for SC, as it appears this means that the No. 1 transfer portal player in the nation will be heading to Southern California in Caleb Williams. Caleb is already being projected to come to USC, and the transfer of Jaxson Dart seemed to be another clear indicator of that happening. Now with one of his favorite targets from back at OU here, it's hard not to believe ALL of the hype.

After all, Oklahoma football writer for The Athletic, Jason Kersey said that "there is a chance" that Mario would follow Caleb because he was "explicit about wanting to play with Caleb." Now with Mario heading to SC, it enforces what everyone has been expecting to happen with Caleb soon to announce his decision to come to the Trojans.

It certainly is true that Mario and Caleb are very tight. Adding fuel to the Caleb Williams rumors, Mario posted this on Instagram just 20 hours before he committed to our program:

Regardless of what happens to Caleb Williams, Mario Williams will be a strong force for USC football.

Mario Williams, who may end up being the best wide receiver on the USC football program, would be a perfect slot target for Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley. He was very exciting in his true freshman season with those two last year. Catching 35 balls for 380 yards and four touchdowns in just his first crack at this level, Williams was expected to really shine in his sophomore season regardless of where he ended up.

Williams now gets to play for the best wideout program in the country--a program who even in arguably their worst year of all-time still produced the runaway favorite for the Biletnikoff Award (best wideout in the country) before he went down to injury in the eighth game of the year. The 2021 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year, Drake London had 88 catches for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns in a legitimately horrible offense.

SC even developed that type of player when they were at their worst. Imagine what they can build receivers into now that Riley is the head coach, especially when Williams is already established as a Riley product.

Mario isn't the biggest guy at 5'9," 186 pounds, but he's plenty strong, and his speed and shiftiness with the ball more than makes up for him not being a giant. He was the No. 4 receiver recruit in his class--to put it in perspective, London was the 35th in his class (all recruiting ratings and rankings in article are as of 247Sports).

This is the second former four-star receiver the Trojans have brought in via the transfer portal this season, as St. John Bosco product Terrell Bynum already made the move from the Washington Huskies back home to Southern California. It appears that the Trojans are also gearing up for a giant QB transfer as well from the one we've all been waiting for.
