USC Football: Spring Camp Injury Report

It’s not just Robert Woods that is MIA this spring for the USC Trojans, as the injury bug is alive and well at SC’s Spring Camp. Here’s a look at the USC injury report, as well as what each player is playing for this spring:

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-US PRESSWIRE

Robert Woods WR (Ankle): We’ve talked about Woods and his ankle before, as it keeps him out of spring camp. According to Michael Lev, a recent MRI on Woods showed inflammation, which means he won’t be on the field until August, presuming he heals accordingly. (Orange County Register)

George Farmer WR (Hamstring): This is a huge camp for George Farmer, as he transitions from running back to wide receiver, in hopes of becoming Matt Barkley’s third target behind Robert Woods and Marqise Lee. Without Woods, Farmer had a built up a good opportunity to win the third receiver slot over Victor Blackwell, but a strained hamstring has derailed that opportunity. Like with Woods, USC is going take their time with Farmer, a luxury of spring camp. (ESPNLA)

Josh Shaw DB (Rib): Shaw is in his first semester at USC after transferring from Florida. While he looks forward to the NCAA granting him clearance for the 2012 season, word has come out of camp that Shaw’s rib, not the NCAA, is the reason he has yet to suit up. According to Shaw, he fractured his rib in a freak accident, by chance, rather than from contact. He’ll miss the rest of spring. (USCFootball.com)

Drew McAllister S (Hand): This is an interesting spring for Drew McAllister, as he came into camp running the risk of falling deep on the depth chart, with the arrivals of Josh Shaw and Gerald Bowman in the secondary. But with Bowman and Shaw out of camp, McAllister was given a chance to distance himself as the top understudy to T.J. McDonald. A hand injury on Tuesday knocked him out of practice, but no further details have been released nor reported. (ESPNLA)

Khaled Holmes C (Calf): Holmes missed Tuesday’s practice with a calf injury, but he’s a lock this spring to retain his role as starting center.

Xavier Grimble TE (Toe): Grimble is in an interesting spot this spring, as he tries to battle Randall Telfer for first team reps at tight end. A toe injury won’t help his cause.

Buck Allen RB (Hamstring): As if the Trojans backfield couldn’t be thinner, Allen’s hamstring puts more pressure on Lane Kiffin to be creative. His answer? Moving Tre Madden to running back. (Orange County Register)

Marquis Simmons LB (Shoulder): According Pedro Moura, Simmons iced his shoulder during the latter part of Tuesday’s practice. (ESPNLA)
