It has been a road to USC that took a couple of detours for Peyton Dyer. Coming from the state of Georgia, traveling across the country to the West Coast is not necessarily the first option that would come to mind.
According to Dyer, however, his initial interest in taking USC seriously as an option stemmed from meeting coach Doug Belk. Naturally, the Trojan secondary coach highlighted the areas of Dyer's game that he liked.
More importantly, the USC staff member pointed out what needed to be improved. At the high school level, an athlete can get away with more after years of taking the sport more seriously than others. Seasons of being the bigger fish at whichever sized pond can sometimes create disillusionment for when someone eventually becomes a collegiate athlete.
While speaking with USC J on his YouTube show, Dyer mentioned how much the improvement aspect stuck out to him and meant for the young secondary player. Everyone is forced to take something of a jump when going from high school to college. How fast someone can learn and how quickly they develop allows for that process to be easier than for others.
Dyer, knowing then and continuing to work on the areas that would prevent him from being able to make an impact for a Division I football team, is only going to help his eventual arrival as a student-athlete on the Trojan campus.
Positive signs from USC commit
Something can be learned from everyone. This is particularly true when talking about those who have already achieved at a high level in a profession. Being able to take in information and then use the knowledge to help better one's craft is what allows for someone to truly strive for greatness.
Dyer, like so many talented prospects, has a lot of potential. The more he seeks ways to get better and sticks to the high standards that the staff is setting for the USC program, the better he will be in the long run.
