It can be exciting, and it should be, for USC fans to see the Trojans do well in recruiting. Coming in with top classes is a much-welcome difference from what has been seen in recent memory. In reality, it is a reestablishing of what has always been the norm in college football.

Of course, having top classes is a nice aspect and feature to brag about as a fan. Even in the event of a different school ultimately grabbing the No. 1 spot, it has helped to reinvigorate and excite the fan base and make some comparisons to prior great teams.

That is not why coach Lincoln Riley and GM Chad Bowden have shifted the focus to players still in high school, though. For them, it is a needed change that will ultimately result in the USC ability to compete for a national championship on an annual basis.

With that comes the knowledge of knowing that a player is far from a finished product when arriving on campus for the first time. Going all-in and sticking to the high school formula is also solidifying a commitment toward excellence in coaching and development.

This staff knows that this more grassroots approach will require patience. It is, however, a more tried and true approach compared to programs that are required to load up via the portal for their starters.

Fortunately for Trojan fans, one look at the names on the staff should further exude confidence that USC is well ahead in the development department as well.

Current USC staff has proven people ready to produce Trojan greats

Both sides of the ball have position coaches who are well-versed and knowledgeable in their craft. The ability to teach and train to get everyone to the needed level will be a continued strength of the Trojans.

People like coach Chad Savage and coach Eric Henderson entered USC with their prior successes and credentials. Now with the Trojans, they, along with the others, will be part of the collective effort that has not only secured the best prospects in the nation but will now be tasked with ensuring their prosperity at the collegiate level.
