Roughly a hundred days from now, USC will host Missouri State for the season opener. One of the players taking to social media to let his excitement be known is Chasen Johnson.

Coming off his freshman year with UCF, the secondary player released a highlight reel of his plays from his first year as a student-athlete. It featured, however, the Coliseum in the opening seconds of the video. The caption, "Round 2" and "I rlly came from data bottom u can't dim me," helped to give the slightest of looks into his mindset heading into the summer, in preparation for the upcoming 2025 marathon.

Johnson is someone who has the skill set coaches are looking for in the secondary. The tenacity and willingness to face high-pressure situations without fear are likely strong parts of what made USC want to add him to the coach D'Anton Lynn defense.

Still an underclassman, it's scary to think how he'll look with more practice and game reps under his belt.

It's known that last year's unit has since had a lot of bodies move on to pursue their dreams at the next level. There are mainstays like Kamari Ramsey on the back end of the defense. For the most part, however, the starters on defense will see a lot of carryover.

This can be an area of concern for some. This Trojan staff has done an excellent job of preparing those currently on the roster and enhancing other areas through the portal to ensure that there won't be too much of a drop-off when the games start in late August.

Johnson will play a big part in those efforts to ensure that that side of the ball continues to progress in the right direction.

Promising outlook for USC CB

He has three years of eligibility remaining. In a lot of cases, the talk would be about building him for the future and speaking of someone like that as more of a project. In the case of Johnson, that is not accurate.

The corner already comes with a sizeable amount of experience at the Division I level. Instead, for Johnson, the upcoming year is about him becoming familiar and comfortable within the scheme and building on his already established skill set.

There is an additional bonus of him being able to stick around the USC program for a long time. Expect to see Johnson make high-impact plays shortly within a couple of months as well.
