He is someone who has experienced both sides of the USC vs. UCLA rivalry. Now entering his second year as a Trojan, redshirt junior Kamari Ramsey is going to play a key role on a defense that graduated a lot of pieces from last season's team.

Ramsey is a secondary player who knows how to read coverages at a high level and just finds himself around the ball, making plays. Particularly in a unit that will see people in elevated roles and new faces, his status and know-how within coach D'Anton Lynn's scheme will be invaluable for the 2025 season.

The safety is someone who can be relied on to come up with a big stop and help get the Trojan offense back out on the field throughout the course of a season. More importantly, he just enjoys being involved in the physical aspect of the game.

Yes, football is a contact sport, and everyone on the field is required to get their hands dirty. The fact of the matter is that some in the secondary prefer to be more coverage guys, shying away from contact.

For Ramsey, the exact opposite is true. He is someone who does well reading how the play develops and then switching on to attack mode. Filling in a hole and stopping the ball carrier in their tracks or knocking the ball out of a receiver's hands just as it touches the opponent's fingertips are areas he enjoys playing a big part in.

It's known that with another strong year at USC, more likely than not, Ramsey will be on the way to the NFL himself. For defensive coordinators at the next level, finding someone who can offer the complete package as a safety is going to be impossible for any NFL team to want to pass up.

Key part of USC defense, ready to exceed expectations

Thankfully for Trojan fans, that's a discussion that will be further had on another day. This season, Ramsey will be out there patrolling the deep areas of the field and dishing out big hits at or behind the line of scrimmage.

The defense will be asked to do more this season (as will the offense). Watching Ramsey continue to grow as a player and be a main catalyst on that side of the ball is a continued joy to watch. When the time comes, his name will deservingly be called on a stage during the draft time.
