Getting to campus early is a great way for student-athletes to jumpstart their collegiate development. Especially for talented players such as USC signee Gus Cordova, for someone who looks ready to see significant snaps as a freshman, arriving before the traditional fall spot as a first-year player can be of great benefit.

Gus Cordova, as reported by Sports Illustrated's Kendell Hollowell, will be enrolling early at USC. Starting in the summer coursework, this will also allow him to be on campus to train and get ready within the program, directly surrounded by his fellow Trojans as they get ready to have a more successful season since joining the Big Ten.

For Cordova, making the move now, from Austin, Texas, to Los Angeles, California, will best allow him to be ready by the time the season fully gets underway.

He is someone who comes with a lot of promise. Often lined up out wide, Cordova seemingly can get to the quarterback on every down. His good reaction times and array of rush moves allow him to consistently cause havoc for offensive lines.

Then add Cordova's power and athletic ability, and the Trojans have someone who won't be too far off from being a starting-caliber defensive lineman.

It's a tough, physical conference, and bulking up the line has been an emphasis of coach Lincoln Riley and this staff. Certainly, there is a stronger need than ever in recent memory to be able to stop the run. This is an area Cordova also does well in.

Looking forward to Cordova's career at USC

Where the incoming Trojan can excel is as a pass rusher. Particularly in must-throw situations, having someone who can pin their ears back and force a bad throw by getting into the face of the opposing QB is a must.

In terms of producing elite talent on the defensive line, Cordova is one of those players who can add his name to the long, impressive list of Trojan legacies at that position.
