USC remains a premier job and landing spot in the world of college football

It is somewhat perplexing how the dialogue surrounding USC has fallen to such an odd place. Yes, everyone recognizes and already knows that the Trojans haven't made it to the College Football Playoffs. This isn't exactly new information. Repeating this fact doesn't equate to some form of newfound wisdom.

Even with that being said, to question USC's place in the world of CFB is beyond silly. If anything, the lack of notable winning seasons while still leading the talk of talk shows speaks to just how powerful the brand is. Imagine what happens when the Trojans do start winning at a high level on a regular basis again.

Too many, including the great Paul Finebaum, are too willing to overlook the Trojans and poke holes in the status of USC as a blue blood.

At the moment, coach Lincoln Riley is securely in the job. Even a bad 2025 season would likely still see him remain due to the buyout alone, let alone some of the other factors that would make it unlikely to see his dismissal.

Hypothetical shows why USC will always be a top brand

If, on the other hand, the job were to be available tomorrow, it would instantly be the most attractive landing destination for coaches throughout the country. The legacy, coupled with the present-day capability of the power of the Trojan emblem, would simply be too much for anyone with high aspirations to chance passing up.

Make no mistake, USC remains one of the best programs in all of college football. Some have done well to take advantage of the Trojans entering a difficult spell in their history. Still, in people's hearts of hearts, including Finebaum's, if one school had to be picked above all, when taking all aspects into account, Cardinal and Gold is going to be near or at the very top of any list.
