During November of last year, class of 2026 offensive lineman Breck Kolojay made a list of his top 12 schools. USC did not make the cut at the time. Now, with the anticipation of a potential Jalen Lott announcement, Trojan fans would be equally excited to see the OL prospect out of Colorado also be added to the number one class in the nation.
Kolojay is being highly sought after by the likes of Miami and Georgia at the moment. It has to be stated, though, that from initially not even being included to now being in a good position among those other contenders, the Trojans could very well end up solidifying the commitment of the four-star as well.
Whether Kolojay ends up coming to Los Angeles or not, the fact that USC found a way to enter the conversation deep into his recruiting process says a lot. Granted, it helps that Trojan commit Kannon Smith is also a Colorado native and has played with Kolojay before.
That aspect only further speaks to the turnaround that has been witnessed, especially since the arrival of GM Chad Bowden.
Encouraging signs for continued USC recruiting success
The connectedness and ability to continue to foster already established relationships are main aspects that speak to why USC is doing so well at the moment on the trail. Many of the SoCal players are already familiar with each other and are eager to join forces on campus.
In terms of the out-of-state players, there is not necessarily the same immediate connection. It does help, as mentioned, to have someone like Smith already pledged to the Cardinal and Gold and potentially in the ear of Kolojay to join him on the West Coast.
If, in the event of that not playing a role, momentum, both good and bad, can quickly lead to a snowball effect.
Right now, the excitement of what is to come at USC is allowing more people to want to be a part of it, knowing that the right steps are in place to ensure that the program will be in a good place for years to come.
