For everything that USC fans want to see improved under coach Lincoln Riley, he is one of the best coaches in the nation. If he were to be forced out or if his availability were to become public, several high-profile programs would do everything in their power to get him into the building.

A lot of coach Riley's success is attributed to his efforts, as it should be. His profession's infancy can be traced back to a then-HC of Texas Tech, coach Mike Leach.

'The Pirate' was one of the most innovative minds, and he was a great representative of college football. Now, nearly three years after his passing, he will soon become eligible for the sport's Hall of Fame.

In a measure that was passed Thursday morning, Action Network's Brett McMurphy shared on X that the win percentage needed for entry into the HoF would be lowered from 60% to 59.5%.

Seeing as coach Leach held an all-time winning record of 59.6%, the current USC HC's mentor will almost assuredly gain entry once the latest measure takes effect in 2027.

Changing the rule to get in may be seen as a circumvention of the guidelines that should not take place for anyone. Coach Leach's impact in CFB transcends what the final results were on the field. Although in that aspect, he would go to a place like Washington State and give them a greater run of success than his contemporaries at the time would have been able to do if placed in a similar situation.

Lasting legacy that affects USC and all of CFB

Coach Leach was a teacher, historian, and someone who just loved the game of football. It was his eye for a Red Raiders QB that ended up creating and producing a Heisman Trophy winner at USC in Caleb Williams.

Coach Riley has often discussed the impact and fortune that he had spending time under the tutelage of coach Leach. It is only fitting that The Pirate found one more way to bend the rules in his favor and will now be able to see his place in the Collegiate Hall of Fame, an honor that he earned and deserves on merit.
