When there is a lot of buzz around one specific USC football player, it's worth taking notice early. As spring camp is well underway, reporters are often observing the practice, hoping to catch a glimpse of someone showing early promise that will then translate to the fall.
Someone whom the media have circled as someone to keep an eye on is linebacker Jadyn Walker. The redshirt freshman is impressing in practice and has been the highlight of a couple of clips in the weeks of footage that have become available in April.
One of the more telling clips from the USC football practices has come from the @uscpriority X account. Shortly before a drill, head coach Lincoln Riley could be seen giving the final words of encouragement before blowing the whistle. Keeping up the high energy and watching someone step up to dominate their one-on-one assignment is something he is looking for.
While working on technique and overall improvement is obviously an important part of spring, having 'wow' moments and making big plays within the framework of the drill parameters plays an immense part in this time of year as well.
Positive moment from USC football spring camp
Starting on their stomachs, the defenders are trying to keep the ball carrier from getting into the end zone. In a scripted 3-v-3 situation, it does ultimately come down to will and the power from a quick reaction time to prevent the ball carrier from crossing the goal line. Walker not only shows that needed, quick initial burst but then also does his job and pushes the offensive player out of bounds, completing the play.
The cheers and hype after the play from the rest of his Trojan teammates should show how good of a play it was from the LB. He sat throughout most of his first year, only seeing action in the Las Vegas Bowl against Texas A&M, but the underclassman is making waves and looks primed to see an increased role heading into the fall of the 2025 season for USC football.
