There are a lot of unique aspects to joining the USC football program. In terms of prestige, success, and the ability to produce elite NFL talent, there are not any comparisons. New man on campus, Jahkeem Stewart, experienced only a glimpse of this firsthand. He was seen speaking with former All-American and NCAA champion Ronnie Lott. Nicknamed 'Thanos,' the powerful freshman athlete hopes to leave a similar Trojan legacy.
Taking a moment to absorb knowledge from prior greats of the game is an amazing trait to have. The willingness to learn and listen to the words from those who have done it before is always something that is worthwhile for current athletes.
In something of a telling picture, shared by On3's Scott Schrader on X, the lineman is visibly attentive and taking the time to hear whatever grains of wisdom that Lott was passing on to him during the weekend Trojan practice.
As one of 14 NFL Hall of Fame inductees, Lott is a shining example of what is possible at USC. Through the school's resources and connections, there isn't a better place overall to achieve athletic and any goals off of the field in the nation. The proven track record and continued success only illustrate this point.
Roots for USC football being established now
It may be a spring weekend, and a lot of people in LA are deservedly enjoying themselves, but for Stewart, Saturday provided an excellent opportunity to connect with one of the school's greats and a certified NFL legend. Early on, the true freshman who enrolled early in January is turning heads and looks every bit like a five-star athlete.
Spring camp is there, particularly for someone like Stewart, to set the stage for the summer and be able to best attack pre-season camp. These weeks will allow the freshman to be able to position himself to be able to suit up and make an immediate impact when USC football takes on Missouri State.
An otherwise seemingly insignificant or random weekend in mid-April could end up meaning more later on for Stewart than what even he knows right now. Until the actual games begin, life is all about doing the right things to prepare for the long, grueling season ahead. Having someone like Lott to lean on and pick his brain is an immense positive.
