For those who use the entirety of the July Fourth weekend to relax and catch up with family and friends, that is completely fine! USC commit Talanoa Ili and people like him use the day after as an additional opportunity to train at a high level and show a national audience why they were as highly coveted as they were during the recruiting process.
Hosted regularly throughout the year at different locations, July 5's Under Armour Next Camp Series took place in Maui, Hawai'i. What the events do an excellent job of is not only providing a further platform for the up-and-coming talents, but they also give a multitude of position-specific drills that allow everyone to get the most out of their time.
The players are placed in a position to work on aspects that directly correlate to what they will need to do on the field. While those growth and development aspects are going on, it also doubles as a chance for competition to reveal who is the best on the day.
In the case of Ili, the class of 2026 linebacker finished the day as the LB MVP for the UA Next event in his age group. His recruiting process drew a lot of attention, particularly in SoCal. As he ended up deciding to join the Trojans, USC fans instantly knew what a win for the program this would mean.
Anticipation for upcoming time at USC
Ili's burst and athleticism are aspects that will serve him well at the collegiate level. Watching these strengths of his on full display through the day's activity that resulted in his being named the best serves as a further feather in the LB's cap.
There is still an entire year to play before Ili officially joins the fold on campus. When that day does come, there will be a lot of excited USC fans eager to cheer on his career in the Cardinal and Gold.
