Some players have speed; others, power. When someone like USC commit Jaimeon Winfield has both and more, that's when there is a true playmaker that gives opposing coaches headaches during the lead-up to games. That is the type of potential the four-star commit has.

Considered to be the best defensive tackle prospect out of the state of Texas, Winfield is someone that offensive coordinators will be forced to spend a lot of time game planning around.

Trojan fans received some good news when On3's Hayes Fawcett shared on X that Winfield would be shutting down his recruitment. The class of 2026 commit quote shared the post saying, "1000% committed."

For all of the talk over who needs to schedule tougher games, the Trojans are in the Big Ten. As coach Lincoln Riley has mentioned, while the conference did not dictate the program's need to strengthen the trenches, being in the BIG very quickly exposes those schools that elect to neglect that aspect of the game.

When watching Winfield, if you blink, you will miss a play of his. Almost immediately off the snap, the DT is in the backfield, and either the quarterback or ball carrier is being brought to the ground.

From Georgia, Alabama, and Oklahoma, among other teams, Winfield had a lot of interest around the country.

In a continued telling sign of how coach Riley and this staff are going about their recruiting approach. The Trojans are being forthright about what they expect from their future players, and they only ask for those pledging to be a part of the program to start investing right back.

Good sign for USC recruiting

By all means, someone like Winfield is not forced to shut down his commitment, but it shows that despite the carried amount of disagreement surrounding the USC 'no visit' policy, players are excited to come to Los Angeles to join the Cardinal and Gold.

For the most part (exceptions for everything will always exist), they do not feel it is as limiting or a potential factor to not consider the Trojans. Instead, because of what USC is and how this current staff is positioning itself, high-caliber athletes like Winfield are eager and more than happy to make it known that they won't be looking anywhere else.
