NFL players are going to be able to compete at LA28. USC will have several players that stand a good chance of playing flag football when the Games come to Los Angeles. Most are looking to see and anticipating who will play for the U.S. team three years from now.
Most would expect Patrick Mahomes to be QB1, although Darrell "Housh" Doucette would beg to differ. Regardless, the potential of Caleb Williams making the roster and showing off his arm talent on the international stage.
In flag football, the quarterback not only has to fit the ball in a more narrow window but also has to be elusive and able to make a play on the scramble. Certainly, Mahomes would be an excellent option in that regard. Three years from now, depending on how he is feeling, Williams could legitimately be the top pick for Team USA to look at in that regard.
In terms of producing special moments that others simply can't reproduce, Williams stands out from the rest of the quarterbacks in the league. So when the Chicago Bears social media team showed video of him making himself an option for the upcoming Olympics, fans should take it as a serious potential option when the event rolls around to L.A.
There are certainly great QBs still who are more pocket passers. When looking at quarterbacks who have the entire package of being able to make throws from under center, on the move, and then just produce 'wow' moments, other than Mahomes, there are not going to be too many better than the former USC man.
Looking ahead for former USC QB for LA28
The only aspect that would make it more fitting is if flag football games were to be held in the Coliseum itself, although that venue will be used for other purposes, of course. Instead, BMO Stadium will be where that particular Olympic event will take place.
With good seasons under new Bears coach Ben Johnson and maybe even an MVP-caliber year before then, Williams being Team USA's QB1 would be a strong possibility; he at least thinks so.
