USC has earned the commitment of 2028 quarterback Trey Wright from Frisco, Texas. The Lone Star High School dual-threat athlete was the first quarterback offered by Lincoln Riley in the 2028 class.
Wright far outplays his three-star designation, which will likely end up moving to four stars when the next batch of rankings updates occurs for the 2028 class. His 5,860 total yards as a sophomore ranked best in the country as he helped lead Lone Star to a 15-1 record.

Trey Wright has some traits similar to former Heisman winner Kyler Murray
Wright's offer list was quite impressive, which was another clear sign that his three-star designation is not an accurate representation of what he provides to an offense. Riley will utilize his new signal-caller to the full extent of his abilities, which were good for 38 passing touchdowns and 16 rushing touchdowns while averaging over ten yards a carry. Wright is the first commitment for the 2028 class, and USC can use this as a springboard for the offense post-Jayden Maiava.
Riley often steers away from making player comparisons, but that will be almost impossible in the case of Wright, as his 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame mirrors that of former Heisman winner and previously coached Kyler Murray. Both also hail from the state of Texas.

"Trey...I just want to say congrats. You're in great hands. Coach Riley is a great teacher, great mentor, developer. One of the best coaches that you can play for," Murray said.
It is no secret that Riley is meticulous when evaluating the quarterback position and analyzing when and how to send out offers. Most schools tend to offer multiple prospects and wait for the first to commit, but Riley is quite the opposite.
There is confidence in the building and staff that quarterback is a position the Trojans can hold on to, and even when they land on a prospect they want who is already committed elsewhere, they can flip that commitment rather easily as seen with Husan Longstreet in the 2025 class.
