Promising 2028 QB Trey Wright views USC offer as 'special moment'

USC continues to stack an already promising 2028 class with an offer to a 3-star quarterback who has enough upside and potential for Lincoln Riley to hand-pick the Frisco, Texas product.

The USC Trojans have extended an offer to quarterback Trey Wright. For Lincoln Riley, extending a scholarship offer to a quarterback is an extremely meticulous and time consuming process. He is not a recruiter or evaluator who hands out offers lightly at the position and typically once he identifies his target, he is relentless in his pursuit.

Wright's shorter stature has not been, nor does it appear to be, a deterrent for Riley when evaluating the quarterback position. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound prospect out of Lone Star High School led his team to an impressive 15-1 record last season and led the country in total yards, accumulating 4,042 passing yards and another 1,764 rushing yards while averaging just over 10 yards per carry. He contributed 54 total touchdowns, with 38 of them coming through the air.

USC will be the team to watch in this recruitment as expert predictions have already started to flood in favor of the Trojans. Wright's offer list and schools of interest include TCU, SMU, Oregon, Kentucky, Michigan, and Arizona. Clemson is the only other school to receive any sort of prediction for the ultra athletic prospect, but it appears USC is now firmly in the driver's seat.

Fans are quick to point to a player's ranking, and while that can sometimes tell the story of a recruit, it isn't the ultimate way to evaluate how a prospect will pan out. Often, the surest way to understand how a prospect is viewed is to look at their offer list.

Wright currently checks in at No. 29 in the quarterback rankings for 2028 and touts a three-star designation. Three-star designations always seem to make fans believe a prospect is not good enough to play for their program, but in Wright's case, his path to becoming a blue-chip prospect is fast and likely.

Don't just take my word for it, take his offer list, for example. The list includes Oklahoma, UCLA, Pittsburgh, Missouri, SMU, Clemson, USC, and others. The Trojans identifying Wright gets them in early on the recruitment, but an offer from Lincoln Riley instantly creates attention. This means Trey Wright's recruitment is likely about to gain steam and become very public and aggressive.
