USC targeting two elite defensive backs in 2028 class

While the USC Trojans are still putting the finishing touches on their 2027 recruiting class, Lincoln Riley and his staff have already built significant momentum in the 2028 cycle.. Headlining the early efforts, two elite local defensive backs have named USC as potential favorites and locked in multiple gameday visits for the upcoming season.

Landing elite local and regional talent has become one of USC's biggest priorities under Riley, and the early returns in the 2028 cycle would indicate that strategy is paying off. Getting multiple visits from two of the state's top defensive backs this early doesn't guarantee commitments, but it does put the Trojans in a favorable position as they look to build another top recruiting class.

Safety Jalen Flowers will pay two visits to USC

USC's 2028 momentum continues to build with two locked in gameday visits from local defensive back Jalen Flowers. The elite Palos Verdes Peninsula product is set to visit the Coliseum for the Week 0 opener on August 29 against San Jose State and then return for a blockbuster Halloween night clash with Ohio State.

Ranked No. 5 in California, Flowers is a prime candidate to skyrocket to the state's top overall ranking and secure a fifth star. Securing his commitment will be a major battle, but NIL won't be an obstacle for the Trojans. When Chad Bowden sets his sights on a priority recruit, he usually seals the deal. This is a recruitment that deserves close monitoring.

Defensive back Keaton Fields already has USC connections

Fields represents another elite, blue-chip defensive secondary prospect out of the West region. Hailing from Chandler, Arizona, he checks in at No. 20 nationally and is ranked as the No. 2 player at his position.

The Trojans already have a built in advantage in that Fields is high school teammates with current USC wide receiver commit Roye Oliver. That existing relationship, combined with USC's strong historical footprint in Arizona, positions the Trojans to be a major, aggressive player in his recruitment.

The Trojans currently sit at No. 13 nationally with a limited class of 14 committed prospects. However, the 2028 cycle is projected to be significantly larger, with elite talent as USC's momentum on the recruiting trail rolls on. Together, Flowers and Fields represent a premier foundational pairing that could set an elite tone for the class very early if the Trojans can secure their commitments.
