Too many overreacting to start of USC Projan's NFL season

Starting off 0-2 is certainly not ideal. It is known what the statistics look like for teams that fall to that record and how often they then go on to make the playoffs.

That being said, there is something that is closer to approaching mass hysteria when it comes to former USC quarterback Caleb Williams and his performances with the Chicago Bears.

Of course it could be better. There are areas to clean up. That can be said of every QB in the league. To chastise and pronounce Williams a bust is not even attempting to analyze the situation. Following the late entry of Tyle Bagent into the game against the Detroit Lions, some are even calling for the backup to take over in the starting role for Week 3.

These types of opinions and statements have more to do with the months-long hiatus that fans have suffered without football. Overreactions are going to be a part of narratives, especially early on in the season.

It has to be remembered that this is a new system, and coach Ben Johnson is implementing aspects in the organization outside of the Xs and Os that will simply take time to cement in Chicago. The new pieces and philosophy need to be given a chance.

Patience needed for former USC QB

The skill set of Williams cannot be questioned. While a lot of the credit will go to the QB in a win and the blame on the same shoulders in a loss, in reality, there is often a disproportionate amount of credit and blame in both instances. This is a Bears team that is looking to catch up to the contenders while fixing some of the mistakes from the past.

Anything short of continued support for Williams and giving him and this team the chance to correct the early shortcomings is too premature.
