It already seems like Tomuhini Topui is a student on the USC campus. Clips consistently show the four-star commit visiting or interacting in some form with other players, coaches, or recruits. A defensive player product out of Mater Dei High School, commonly known as 'Tom Tom,' is someone who has known for a while why he wanted to commit to the Trojan program.

A post shared by Trojan Football ✌️ ᶠᵃⁿ on X showed Topui playing cards with the likes of GM Chad Bowden, coach Shaun Nua, and assistant director of player personnel Aaron Amaama, more commonly known as coach Dogg, among others.

For all of the mystery surrounding how USC could possibly do so well in recruiting without simply outbidding everyone, as if there would not be any other possible explanation, the video of their interaction showcases exactly why this staff is doing so well on the recruiting trail.

For this USC staff, there is not some elaborate pitch or scheme. How the money aspect plays out is the business of those directly involved. Certainly, it is known what opportunities exist by being a Trojan. That is not even close to the driving force, however, when it comes to the number of recruit-turned-commits that have made the headlines in the last couple of months.

True relationships are being established at USC

Instead, the overall approach has been to truly get to know and understand the current and incoming players. Not everything will or can be about football all of the time. Simply sitting down, talking about life, or telling old stories among the staff is what allows the coaches to connect with the players, far beyond dollar signs.

For Topui in particular, he has made it clear that the family aspect and close connectedness are most important for him. Being able to switch hats from the tough coach to almost that of a loving uncle is why USC is doing well, particularly among the SoCal talents. This video clip illustrates this point better than anything else.
