The Houston Texans are not alone anymore in recognizing how well the USC program develops players. The Las Vegas Raiders have added two Trojans as free agents to their roster. Considering the former USC tie-in with coach Pete Carroll, it's only fitting.
Greedy Vance Jr. and John Humphrey were added to the LV team as rookie free agents following the 2025 NFL Draft. Both had standout moments with USC that they will look to build upon. At the next level, rosters can't have enough corner depth. A lot of times, even when things go right for the defender, the offensive player can still make a play.
Between special teams, injury, and needing multiple bodies at the defensive back position, depending on the formation, this is an area the rosters can afford to go heavy on. It's worth noting that when athletes have the talent and skill set of the likes of Vance Jr. and Humphrey, the versatility that such players can bring is often too good to pass up.
Now being under the tutelage of coach Carroll, they'll look to earn a spot on the roster, or if they fall short there, to remain in the building in order to continue to learn from one of the great coaches in all of football. Safe to say, if location is what matters most after college, the pair of DBs found something of an ideal landing spot.
Path to making final cut of NFL team
As it's coach Carroll's first year in Las Vegas, there is something of an open slate in the building. Certainly there will be an open door for both now-former Trojans to make the final roster and solidify a role in the rotation in the secondary. They'll know what it will require of them to get there, but USC fans know what these two are capable of and that they'll make a push for this goal.
For Vance Jr., his late interception in the end zone against Nebraska sealed the win. Humphrey returned a pick for 15 yards against the national runner-ups in Notre Dame in a comeback effort that just came up short. They will hope to create their first turnover in the NFL soon and remain part of coach Pete Carroll's team for a while to come.
