The Jacksonville Jaguars are about to directly experience why Trojan fans thoroughly enjoyed having Jonah Monheim on campus. In terms of someone who goes about his business the right way and carries himself in an incredibly professional manner.
Now heading to Duval, the offensive lineman brings experience across multiple positions and is someone who will instantly be welcomed in an NFL locker room. The Jaguars used their 221st pick in the seventh round on the now-former USC center.
Jacksonville had Mitch Morse as their starting C in 2024. He has since retired, and the offensive line in general will need reinforcement to help their starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, out. Monheim made the shift to center for his senior year at USC. Even if he loses out on that starting role, he will likely see a high number of significant snaps for his new team this upcoming season.
He has the skill set to be the starter at center. A lot can happen between now and the kickoff to the regular season. Even if he begins his NFL career as a backup, injuries are a part of this sport. Coaches being able to feel comfortable turning to someone of Monheim's experience across the line will be an asset that they will be able to lean on over a 17-game span.
Slated for rookie playing time with the Jaguars
Now set to compete for a spot on the Jacksonville depth chart, Monheim will learn under the Jaguars first-year head coach, Liam Coen. The recent Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator will look to unlock Lawrence in a similar way that he did Baker Mayfield.
It goes without saying, however, that that can only take place if the unit in the trenches is a solid one. Between his football IQ, the way he attacks preparation, and his ability to hold his own in one-on-one matchups, Monheim will likely play a significant role in the new HC's plans.
