The Trojans are on a summer heater, seemingly able to land whichever blue-chip prospects they target. By consistently securing elite talent across the country and in their own backyard, USC is proving to be an unstoppable force in the 2027 cycle.

USC Flips Elite Local Talent

The Trojans' biggest recent splash came via the flip of four-star offensive lineman Drew Fielder from Oregon. Choosing home-state ties over a future in Eugene, the Servite prospect is a testament to USC's renewed lockdown of California talent. By beating out a major conference rival for the state's top lineman, USC continues to build momentum for its 2027 cycle, where Fielder now stands as the fifth-highest-ranked commit in their top-five national class.

Fielder is the first offensive lineman in a class that has climbed to inside the top five and will challenge for another No. 1 ranking.

USC Stays Local

USC has added more local muscle to its 2027 class with the commitment of St. John Bosco linebacker Josiah Poyer. Known for his versatility and high motor, the 225-pound Trinity League star has been a tackling machine, racking up 121 career stops and proving his pass-rushing chops with seven sacks last year. Poyer is the eighth piece of a recruiting puzzle that is leaning heavily into elite Southern California talent.

Arizona and Arizona State were also in the picture for Poyer, but once the Trojans gave him a committable offer, they were not going to be beaten.

No, Not that LA

USC ventured deep into SEC territory earlier this week to land explosive Lake Charles, Louisiana running back Javon Vital Jr. A top-20 prospect in the state, Vital Jr. chose the Trojans over heavyweights like LSU and Ole Miss. He is a certified game-breaker, coming off a staggering junior season where he racked up over 3,500 all-purpose yards and 49 touchdowns. He currently plays quarterback and wide receiver in high school, but he projects as a natural slot in college. Vital Jr. also has some potential upside in the return game.

Having established an early connection, the Trojans secured a player whose skill set is perfectly tailored for a Lincoln Riley-led offense. Expect his stock to soar as the recruiting cycle progresses.
