USC LB Raesjon Davis has decided to redshirt but plans to return to USC
It has become a trend for college football players to decide for themselves to redshirt. That's what USC senior linebacker Raesjon Davis has announced that he's going to do. However, the good news is that he intends to return to USC next season.
This year, Davis has played in three games making five tackles. For his career, he's made 31 tackles in 36 games for the Trojans. But in 2024, he's been buried on the depth chart and he's been primarily a special teams contributor.
Tuesday, USC head coach Lincoln Riley said that he "understands" Davis' decision but that nothing is set in stone. He also said that he believes that the four-game redshirt rule needs to be changed.
USC basketball makes final three for son of NBA legend
One of the top high school basketball recruits in the country, Kiyan Anthony, the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, has cut his college choices to three schools. USC remains in the mix along with Auburn and his father's alma mater, Syracuse.
According to 247Sports.com, Anthony is a 4-star prospect and the No. 34 overall prospect and No. 6 shooting guard in the class of 2025. He received an offer from USC in July and took an official visit to L.A. in late September.
Two key USC football defenders questionable for Minnesota game
Speaking with the media this week, Lincoln Riley said that two of his key defenders, Eric Gentry and Akili Arnold, are questionable to play Saturday against Minnesota. Both are critically important to the USC defense.
Gentry, a senior linebacker, leads the Trojans with 30 tackles this season. He also has seven tackles for loss and two sacks.
Meanwhile, Arnold is a senior safety who is seventh on the team with 13 tackles despite playing in only three games. He also wears the green dot on his helmet indicating that he is the player that defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn talks to through the in-helmet communication system. He did not play against Wisconsin.
USC soccer takes down Wisconsin
Just like the USC football team did this weekend, the No. 24 USC soccer team took down Wisconsin Sunday in L.A. The 3-0 win moved the Trojans to 8-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in Big Ten play.
In the first home game of the season for USC, Simone Jackson got USC on the board first and Maria Alagoa and Jaiden Anderson added insurance goals. Goalkeeper Laurence Gladu picked up her sixth shutout of the season in the win.
The Trojans stay home this week, as they host Oregon at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday at 12 p.m. Pacific. USC will honor its senior class before the game. That match can be seen live on B1G+.
