Jordan Addison's transfer makes USC football potentially the favorites in the Pac-12. While USC didn't have a need at receiver, every program in the country would have a spot waiting for Addison if he became available. He's the best wideout in the country.

Winning the Biletnikoff Award last season, he earned that title heading into this season. He'd be the No. 1 receiver at any program in 2022, and that's what he'll be here at SC. That's why this transfer does shake up the depth chart a bit. Before the transfer, here's what the depth chart looked like:

X-WR:

X-WR1. Brenden Rice

X-WR2. Kyle Ford

X-WR3. Terrell Bynum

X-WR4. Kyron Ware-Hudson

Y-WR:

Y-WR1. Gary Bryant Jr.

Y-WR2. Jake Smith

Y-WR3. John Jackson III

Y-WR4. C.J. Williams

Z-WR:

Z-WR1. Mario Williams

Z-WR2. Tahj Washington

Z-WR3. Michael Jackson III

Now, Jordan Addison moves into the X-WR1 spot for USC football.

Now with Jordan Addison in the fold, USC football will use him atop the X-WR position on the depth chart. This doesn't, however, mean that Rice won't start anymore. This is what the depth chart will look like now:

X-WR:

X-WR1. Jordan Addison

X-WR2. Kyle Ford

X-WR3. Terrell Bynum

X-WR4. Kyron Ware-Hudson

Y-WR:

Y-WR1. Brenden Rice

Y-WR2. Gary Bryant Jr.

Y-WR3. John Jackson III

Y-WR4. C.J. Williams

Z-WR:

Z-WR1. Mario Williams

Z-WR2. Tahj Washington

Z-WR3. Michael Jackson III

(Note that Smith was removed from this chart. He is no longer with the team.)

Rice just gets moved to the Y-WR position as more of a slot-type WR, where he will be a good fit anyways. He's explosive, which could open him up downfield. He's physical, which would help out when blocking from that spot. He's also dynamic, which helps him provide much needed versatility to thrive in the slot.

Mario Williams would stay in the Z-spot, meaning that he'd still likely be the speed receiver that SC is going to send flying and hoping to beat the defense downfield consistently.

Addison as the X-receiver would be the No. 1 option and give him the chance to run a wide variety of routes as both a possession receiver and in his case, a deep-threat if that's what the defense chooses to give this offense. Lincoln Riley has so much freedom in this offense now that he has the best pass-catcher in the nation.

There are so many more options in the passing game that he can implement. Giving who's widely considered to be the best offensive coach in the country the best wideout in the country is going to be scary. Addison caught 100 footballs for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2021.

While the team didn't need receiver help and had a strong crop of wideouts coming into 2022, losing the best college wideout of 2021 (Drake London was the runaway favorite for the Biletnikoff before he got hurt and was out for the season during the eighth game of the year) did leave SC without a sure-fire, elite number one.

Now that SC has that, and cements themselves as a program that has all of a proven elite QB, a proven elite RB, and now a proven elite WR--its proven elite Head Coach can go to work with all the resources he needs on offense.
