USC Football: Trojans land Georgia DL Alexander
By Joshua Burt
The USC Trojan head coach, Lincoln Riley, has been a master in handling the transfer portal since taking over this position in Southern California. This year, he has the Trojans within the top 5 programs in utilizing the portal. Now, you can see that recruiting class climb up the rankings after the latest commitment from Georgia’s Defensive Lineman, Bear Alexander.
According to 24/7 Sports, Alexander is listed at 6-3 and 325 pounds. The highly regarded Sophomore has a composite rating of 0.9782 and was a four-star prospect coming out of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. He was ranked the 50th-best player in the nation and the 9th Defensive Lineman in the 2022 recruiting class.
He saw limited playing time as a Freshman with the Bulldogs last year. He recorded nine total tackles, two for a loss, and another two sacks. However, he is a legitimate interior defensive lineman who could contribute in a big way for the Trojans this upcoming season.
Lincoln Riley’s defenses over the years have been highly scrutinized and are once again a topic of conversation this offseason. Riley is planning on making changes to this weak link in his football programs and adding depth is being addressed with this latest commitment.
In a recent interview, Riley explained the problems that happened.
"“The defense you played last year, there was a little bit of a sense of a handful of really good players and there was too much of a gap between those guys and everyone else. You have some really good outstanding individual players but the gap has closed because of that you have more competition and more depth.""

The Trojans now have the second-best football transfer ranking with a 92.36 rating. The only other school that is better than USC comes from another PAC-12 program, the Colorado Buffaloes with a 97.24 rating. Riley is doing his best to land the top defensive talent in the nation. Time will tell if it all pans out.
