USC football spots 2 excellent Trojans on Maxwell Award Watch List
By Evan Desai
Both USC Football QB Caleb Williams and USC Football WR1 Jordan Addison were placed on the Maxwell Award Watch List as the 2022 offseason finally starts to come to a close.
The Maxwell Award is given to the "College Player of the Year." Therefore, it's not surprising that these two were put on their Watch List. After all, Williams was projected to be the College Player of the Year for some time last year despite not even starting until the second half of the season.
As for Addison, he was named the best wide receiver in the country last year, winning the Biletnikoff award. Who's to say he can't make the jump and now be the best player?
Nobody's saying it WILL for sure happen, but it's within the realm of possibility for each of these players. Their prior connection they've made through growing up together will surely give each a boost. Who's to say they can't wreck the competition together?
USC football's Caleb Williams and Jordan Addison is one of the best QB-WR duos in the NCAA.
Caleb Williams comes to the USC football program after averaging 9.1 yards per pass attempt and 10.2 adjusted yards per pass attempt in his true freshman season. He also put up 5.6 yards per carry and scored 27 total touchdowns (21 passing) in his half-season.
Not only does he gain the best receiver in the country who he has prior chemistry with, but he gets to keep the coach he played for at Oklahoma, as Lincoln Riley of course is with SC now. It's ludicrous to not expect another massive year from Williams, so he is most certainly deserving of a spot on this Watch List.
Addison is a no-brainer as well. As just a sophomore last year, he caught 100 footballs for 1,593 yards and 17(!) touchdowns. Now he gets to play under Riley, who is the consensus best offensive coach in America. He's going to have another monster year, and will of course likely become even better with the better coaching.
Both of these players are already terrific. Pairing them with each other even raises their ceilings, and having Riley lead the show with them as his lead cast puts them on radars to where they can possibly be the best players in the game.
