Legendary USC QB is hilariously jealous of Caleb Williams dominating the NIL game
By Evan Desai
New USC Football Quarterback Caleb Williams can't stop winning on the NIL trail, and Matt Barkley seems to have taken notice...
The best part about this is that this deal was just the beginning for Williams as far as NIL money goes. He signed a deal with Faculty recently, which is a grooming brand, and Fanatics is also selling some merchandise that's signed by Williams himself. If Barkley's mesmerized by even just this one deal, I can't even imagine how he's feeling about the entire NIL picture for Williams.
I think it's safe to say that EVERY former college athlete has to be feeling the same way Barkley does.
Matt Barkley would have brought in a lot of money if he was playing with USC football in this day and age.
Matt Barkley would be putting up Caleb Williams numbers if he was quarterbacking USC football these days. Remember how much excitement there was for Barkley when he signed with SC? It was just as big of a deal as it was when Williams made the move from Oklahoma.
According to 247Sports, Barkley is still tied for the second-best recruit in USC history, behind only Joe McKnight.
We're hoping Williams will have a high level of success like Barkley did at SC, and I call that it's going to happen. Williams gets to continue the continuity of being under new USC HC Lincoln Riley that he originally established in his true freshman season last year at Oklahoma. Williams didn't even start last year until the second half of the season and still scored 27 total touchdowns.
Averaging 9.1 yards per pass attempt and 5.6 per rush attempt as just a true freshman, Williams' ceiling is about as explosive as it gets. The better he plays, the more NIL opportunity he's going to have. This very well may just be the beginning.
