When the USC football team takes the field tonight against Minnesota, it will do so without leading tackler Eric Gentry. It is being widely reported that the senior linebacker from Philadelphia will miss the week six contest with an undisclosed injury sustained last week against Wisconsin.
Despite missing part of last week's game, Gentry has a team-high 30 tackles on the season. That's eight more than any other Trojan defender.
He also leads the team with 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. Thus, his absence will be felt this evening.
The good news, though, is that Minnesota's offense may not be equipped to take advantage of not having to face Gentry. The Golden Gophers rank just 108th nationally in yards per game at 327.2 and 88th in scoring at 26.9 points per game.
Another bit of good news for the Trojans is that safety Akili Arnold is expected to return to action this week. The senior safety did not play against Wisconsin but will be available tonight. For the season, he has made 13 tackles and has been credited with one pass defense.
On the other side of the football, USC is expected to see wide receiver Makai Lemon back on the field against the Golden Gophers. The sophomore missed last week's game after exiting the Michigan game following a brutal helmet-to-helmet hit on special teams. Thus far he has caught four passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.
USC and Minnesota kick off at 4:30 p.m. Pacific. The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network.
