Saturday evening, the USC football team will look to move to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play but it won't be easy as the schedule takes the Trojans to Minnesota. Though the Golden Gophers aren't ranked, they showed last week in a 27-24 loss at No. 12 Michigan that they can be a handful to deal with.

Don't let Minnesota's 2-3 overall record deceive you. This is not a team that USC can take lightly, especially on the road.

In the first week of the season, the Gophers lost to North Carolina when they missed a last-second field goal. Then, after back-to-back home wins over Rhode Island and Nevada that saw the Golden Gophers pitch a pair of shutouts, they were humbled by Iowa 31-14 at home.

Then, last week, they played their first road game of the year and they put forth their most impressive effort of the season. Falling behind 24-3 heading into the final quarter, they could have easily folded but instead, they fought back to where they had an opportunity to try an on-side kick with 1:37 to play in the game.

Minnesota recovered that kick but was also penalized for a controversial off-sides penalty that negated the recovery. On the ensuing kick, Michigan recovered the second on-side kick to end Michigan's comeback attempt.

Though the Golden Gophers didn't quite pull off the upset of the Wolverines, the fact that they lost in "The Big House" by the same score that USC lost to Michigan earlier this year should be a reminder to Trojan fans that this game won't be a walk in the park.
