Draft picks from USC agree to interesting rookie deals with NBA teams

On Wednesday, former USC guards Isaiah Collier and Bronny James agreed to their rookie contracts. The breakdown of each deal is interesting, to say the least.

Isaiah Collier inked his first NBA contract with the Utah Jazz, a four-year deal that aligns with the league's rookie scale. Utah does not disclose contract details, but it's estimated the former Trojan will receive approximately $12,903,788. The NBA's scale guarantees the first two years of a rookie contract and team options for the third and fourth years.

As the 29th overall draft pick, Collier can receive $2,512,680 for the first year of his deal.

Collier was the best USC product in the 2024 draft class after producing lottery pick numbers in his lone season in Southern California. He averaged 16.3 points per game, 4.3 assists, and snagged 2.9 rebounds. The 19-year-old will likely spend his first season with the Salt Lake Stars in the G League.

Despite Collier's collegiate accolades, all the pre-draft hype in Los Angeles surrounded Bronny James.

The eldest son of Lebron James was inevitably destined to play with his father in Los Angeles. Rich Paul and the Klutch Sports Group pulled all the necessary strings to land Bronny with the Lakers at pick No. 55.

Many media members and basketball fans debated Bronny's value as a second-round draft pick. Either way, Rob Pelinka continues doing what makes Lebron happy and has created the first father-son duo in the NBA's history. The James camp made more history on Wednesday.

The Lakers signed the former USC shooting guard to a four-year, $7.9 million deal.

Bronny's salary figure and contract terms are historic for a second-round pick. James' deal is a one-way contract, meaning the Lakers cannot split his time between their active and G League affiliate rosters. Paul made it clear before the draft that a two-way deal for Bronny was not an option.

Only Colby Jones signed a larger deal ($8.8 million) as a second-round draft pick. Jones was drafted 34th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2023 NBA Draft.
