Life was good for USC football fans in week three. With the No. 11 Trojans enjoying an open week, it was a perfect week to take in college football nationwide.
It wasn't necessarily an earth-shattering weekend around the NCAA. In fact, there were no upsets that generated the type of buzz that we saw in week three when Northern Illinois took down then-No. 5 Notre Dame.
We came close to seeing one, though, when Georgia went down to the wire at Kentucky. However, in the end, the No. 1 Bulldogs pulled out a 13-12 win.
As a result, some might believe that the Bulldogs deserve to drop in our College Football Playoff prediction. However, they remain in the top spot because their wins over Clemson and Kentucky are better than Texas' win over a Michigan, team that likely won't end up in the top 25 after losing to No. 11 USC in week four.
Speaking of the Trojans, they hold strong in the A.P. poll at No. 11 while falling one spot to No. 12 in the Coaches Poll after being jumped by Miami. But where do they stand in our playoff prediction? Let's take a look.
Rank | Team | Bid | Previous Rank |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Georgia | SEC Champ | 1 |
2 | Ohio State | Big Ten Champ | 2 |
3 | Miami | ACC Champ | 3 |
4 | Kansas State | Big 12 Champ | N/A |
5 | Texas | At-large | 5 |
6 | Alabama | At-large | 6 |
7 | Ole Miss | At-large | 7 |
8 | USC | At-large | 8 |
9 | Penn State | At-large | 9 |
10 | Tennessee | At-large | 10 |

With no major upsets this week and with many top contenders enjoying an open week, there isn't much movement in our playoff prediction for this week. In fact, the only change is that Kansas State supplants Utah as the Big 12 championship favorite.
Kansas State won the battle of the ranked Big 12 Wildcats by taking down No. 20 Arizona in dominating fashion 31-7. That win is worlds better than any that Utah (which was previously our Big 12 playoff representative) has earned in 2024.
This weekend, there are only two top-25 matchups with USC and Michigan being one and No. 5 Tennessee at No. 15 Oklahoma being another. However, we never know what will happen any given week so check back next Monday to find out how the predicted playoff field shakes out.
