There was a late push from Ohio State to land the long-time USC target priority of Luke Wafle. That is to be expected. After all, the EDGE rusher from New Jersey is a highly talented player with a ton of upside. If anything, the Buckeyes' late involvement should show how coveted his skill set is.

Despite the late back-and-forth that could be seen on social media, Wafle made his announcement. The four-star product out of The Hun School of Princeton will be joining the USC class of 2026 when he continues his football career at the collegiate level, as initially announced on YouTube.

For some, it may come as a complete shock to the system seeing a top national defensive prospect elect to join the Trojans over the Buckeyes. The reality of the situation is that USC and the Trojan commits of the class in particular always made it so that the Cardinal and Gold were at the forefront of Wafle's mind.

Through the visits and efforts from the staff and all Trojans alike, they ultimately gave Wafle a choice. By going to Ohio State, he would have been a part of a team and defense that routinely does well and cycles players in and out.

At USC, Wafle will have the chance to be a part of a strong, unified team that is making a collective push together to be at the top of the Big Ten and make annual appearances in the College Football Playoffs.

Opportunity to leave a lasting legacy at USC

The difference is one of being more of a player who provides more of the same. Contrast that with what lies in store at USC. Wafle believes that this coach D'Anton Lynn defense is more than on the right track and he will be able to now play a critical role in helping the Trojans to return to dominance.

Ultimately, while many will choose to focus on the money aspect, what allowed Wafle to feel comfortable in choosing the Trojans is simple. He likes how this team is already as close-knit as it is, and he sees the vision and what will soon be with the Trojans being a national force to be reckoned with from Los Angeles.
