There's a lot to be said of the current USC recruiting classes and how they are continuing to shape up. As a top brand in the sport, the Trojans will always have a national approach to acquiring talent. That being said, it means more and needs to continue to be the emphasis of this staff to bring in local talent.

While speaking with USCJ on the USCJ Lost In Tha Sauce Podcast, recently committed class of 2026 linebacker Andrew Williams discussed a variety of topics with the show host.

One aspect that stood out was how much playing for USC will mean to him and how the local love of the school, being from San Bernardino, played a major role in his ultimately deciding on the Cardinal and Gold.

There were other schools that had offered Williams. Other known names, such as Arizona and Boston College, expressed interest in the LB's talents. After some time with the current USC coaching staff, though, it wasn't too much of a decision. He happily made the announcement that he would be committing to playing for coach Lincoln Riley and coach D'Anton Lynn.

While listening to Williams speak, it's clear that he is taking the responsibility of being a local talent and producing at a high level seriously. Not that every high school in Southern California will commit to being a Trojan, but USC at a minimum, needs to be near the top of every list within the SoCal radius.

Having players like Williams excited to be a Trojan and publicly mention how it has been a dream destination of his since being a kid will only help in that regard.

Big goals for USC commit in final high school season

About to enter his senior season for John C. Fremont High School, Williams mentioned to USCJ that he wants to build on his past season and goal of pushing 200 total tackles on the year, as well as a couple of interceptions.

That drive and unwillingness to become complacent is a large draw for the Trojan coaching staff. Then add Williams' versatility, and coach Rob Ryan has an ideal player in that linebacking room that can be a part of coach Lynn's scheme.

It may seem far away, but it will be a blink of an eye, and Williams will be stepping foot on campus, training, and ready to land some big hits on opposing offensive players soon enough.
