For anyone paying attention to USC recruiting, the Trojans are loading up on talent throughout the future classes. While families were out enjoying their Mother's Day celebrations, the family of  Shaun Scott saw the four-star talent share an important announcement with the rest of the world of college football.

The Mater Dei class of 2026 edge rusher has committed to the University of Southern California. After a delay from the original intended date of his announcement, Scott disclosed that he, along with many other local players, would be staying home.

In a post shared on X, On3's Hayes Fawcett shared the words of the commit, "Love you mama happy Mother’s Day, Fight On."

His becoming a Trojan is something that many expected, and the staff, as well as some of the current commits, worked hard to create a strong impression in order for Scott to consider USC. Anything can happen in recruiting, and while  a jump in a certain body of water wasn't needed, his confirmed intention to wear the Cardinal and Gold jersey comes as a highly welcomed sign.

Ohio State, Florida, and Texas were among a number of programs that were interested in adding Scott to their ranks. A MaxPreps All-American and All-Trinity League defensive member, he had his fair share of options to choose from.

Once again, however, Trojan fans saw the current staff find a way to earn the trust of a local student-athlete and ensure that one of the top players in the area wanted to join the USC program.

Skill set being added to the USC defense

When watching him play, he does well in coverage and has the needed athleticism and dynamic ability to drop back and make a play on the ball. Particularly against slot receivers and tight ends, this could be an asset for the Trojan defense to take advantage of.

Where Scott excels is getting to the quarterback. Good off the snap, he has a nice variety of rush moves. The same ability that allows him to be a versatile defender also showcases itself in the variety of ways he goes about trying to exploit matchups on the offensive line.

There is a reason why many other teams were interested in Scott, but in the end, USC adds another top defender to the roster in its already strong 2026 class.
