Even before the commitment news of Peyton Dyer to USC, the hosting job this weekend by the Trojans was stellar. A lot of attention can sometimes be focused on the number of stars associated with the visiting recruits and commits. That has its place in college sports, of course. This past weekend was about more than the proposition of hoping to further stack up on talent for the future recruiting classes.
It is Los Angeles. USC had to roll out the red carpet. In this case, it was literally as the future Trojans enjoyed their Coliseum entrance. The thunderous applause from the staff was part of the official visit event as well as when the players and their families arrived for their accommodations.
Not to compare the food or other aspects to other schools that hosted athletes this past weekend as well, but leaving it at the USC options were certainly top-notch in that regard as well should be enough to illustrate how special the staff made sure to make it a memorable, lasting imprint for everyone who attended.
What this Trojan staff did, however, is more than show the luxury that comes with being a star in Los Angeles. Yes, part of this weekend allowed everyone to further see what the campus has at its disposal.
USC is able to seperate itself from everyone else
Instead, the focus should be more on the effort that this staff puts in to make sure that USC recruits and commits feel at home. Exciting people to want to build up the program again and buy into building a true power in college football again is what has been the consistent effort of this staff.
Seeing the players posing with the Heisman Trophy and among the Trojan staff gives a greater sense of the purpose that everyone is striving for in this coach Lincoln Riley program. If players end up going somewhere else, they will certainly know that USC is a legitimate soon-to-be contender that they will have to soon face up against. Only now will they know how undermanned their program will be compared to that of the Trojans across all fronts.
