Having a true concept of a team within any organization is incredibly important. USC has been disconnected in many aspects throughout the latest seasons of disappointment.
There is now, however, a renewed sense of togetherness and spirit in the program. For a coach who is a bad season away from being on the potential scorching hot seat, there is a certain level of calmness in Troy.
Instead, the players and staff appear to have a strong working relationship, unified by the prospect of making the most of 2025 and showing that the improvements are indeed real and can lead to wins.
There is a different feel at USC compared to past seasons. The way in which this team is going about its business shows part of the needed change that had to take place among the Trojans.
Continuity and having a joint sense of purpose are what allow a team to achieve its highest goals. Without this critical team aspect, a program can be floating in a sea of desperation with the constant need to implement short-term fixes. This often leads to unsustainable practices being implemented, covering for parts that would need to actually be addressed in order for true success to be able to take place, beyond it being an accident.
Important culture shift at USC
Hearing of the camaraderie and buzz around USC speaks to how coach Lincoln Riley has pivoted. As mentioned, it is a critical year for the Trojans. Rather than sounding alarm bells or doubling down on bad practices, the Trojan HC deserves a tremendous amount of praise for the current approach under his leadership.
In recruiting as well, this aspect has shown up in a great sense and is a large reason as to why there have been so many wins on the trail.
It remains to be seen what USC will look like in terms of wins and losses. How the Trojans are setting themselves up will put them in the best position to see the desired results on the field.
