For all of the great developments that have been on display from USC to this point, the secondary has given USC fans reason to be worried. Even though the Trojans have had fairly comfortable wins, the concern has been as to what would happen once the tougher opponents begin to line up against the Trojans.

This aspect will have a preview of what is potentially to come when the Michigan State strength on offense faces what has been the USC weak point on defense to this point of the season.

The Spartans are a team that aims to feature Aidan Chiles. This tends to be true, of course, for any college football team, as the quarterback is the most important position in the sport. The Michigan State QB has done well to this point, though, and plays an especially large role in the offense when compared to other teams.

Part of what needs to be seen, especially as the Trojans face stiffer competition, is improvement. As a whole, coach D'Anton Lynn's unit has shown progress since his arrival at Troy.

This particular matchup gives a chance for the secondary to show that they will indeed be able to hold up in coverage against the better offenses in the Big Ten. Even though the Trojans are heavily favored, this specific test is going to be something that is immensely important to monitor.

What to look out for during USC game

If, however, the Trojan defense is able to hold up, the aspect that has worried many USC fans the most to this point will have to take an additional positive step in the right direction, providing further reassurance that the program is on the right track.

This once again speaks to the importance of not only looking at the final scoreline or raw stats. The chess game through all four quarters is what will ultimately speak for this USC team.
