An aspect that USC fans have been begging to see is that of a prominent run game. Against Missouri State, the Trojans managed to look good in this area. The passing game was certainly a prominent feature of the offense. This is always going to be the case.

For one, for any team that is not a service academy, the days of primarily running the ball are over. The rules are too much in favor of the offense, and it is significantly easier for teams to gain chunk yards through the air compared to past years.

Add, too, that this is coach Lincoln Riley's system, and with the fact that Jayden Maiava is throwing to Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane, it is going to be hard to not see the ball in the air a lot during Trojan games.

While speaking with reporters, as shared by The Sporting Tribune's Adrian Medina on X, coach Riley discussed the explosive nature of the run game that was on display against the Bears.

Now with Georgia Southern coming to town, Trojan fans would love nothing more than to see two of the USC running backs go for over 100 yards each.

While that may be an unrealistic expectation, coach Riley lauded the ability of the team to produce highly explosive plays on the ground against Missouri State. That will, of course, have to do with the talent at the running back position and the ability of the offensive line to give the ball carrier lanes to navigate in.

Overlooked USC aspect

Coach Riley, though, also made certain to mention the effort levels of the wide receivers on the perimeter. While the line and backs can often yield the initial burst, it often takes a perimeter player being willing to do the dirty work that ultimately can result in a large gain on the ground.

The running attack looked good against Missouri State. Now USC fans will be looking to see a repeat performance in this area against Georgia Southern.
