It has been said around USC circles that the addition of Trumain Carroll as the director of football sports performance is already beginning to make a noticeable impact on the program.
This is something that needed to be improved within the Trojans. For any program that is actually looking to do well on the field, this is an absolutely critical area of need that needs to be properly addressed and cannot be seen as something that will simply take care of itself.
The LA Times' Ryan Kartje shared on X from coach Carroll himself. According to the strength and conditioning coach, even the way in which the USC players warmed up did not cut it. To be a top-tier Division I program, these types of things serve as the foundation of everything. Not knowing how or not putting enough respect on the process of getting the body ready for a full workout is something that may not seem obvious. It is something, however, that creeps up later, and it becomes clear in hindsight as to why the athletes aren't able to perform at their best capacity.
Time-proved advice being utilized at USC
This is only one example of what coach Carroll has brought with him to Los Angeles. The Trojan student-athletes needed someone to reemphasize the focus and attention in all aspects.
Coach Carroll during the clip gave the adage:
"How you do one thing is how you do everything."
While a lot of people in positions of importance pretend to preach this same message, it quickly becomes a void of empty words in many corporate environments.
Having someone actually maintain the standards and ensure that corrections are made takes time and consistent effort. Not allowing the product to slip and keeping the needed level of input is immensely important. It is this mentality and follow-through that has many impressed with coach Carroll during his stint so far at USC, and why the Trojans will be better prepared heading into the fall.
