If teams and fans kept track of pancake blocks in the 80s the way they do now, USC offensive lineman Jeff Bregel may still hold that Guinness record. The former Trojan is already an NFF National Scholar-Athlete. He will now be in line for the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame on the 2026 ballot.

This will not be his first appearance on the ballot. Bregel's name was initially available for voters to select as part of the 2021 class. He will now have a chance to get in with a long list of former USC players who have also earned the honor.

Those who remember student body right can still envision Bregel pulling from his position. Even when everyone in the Coliseum knew what was coming, the opposing team truthfully did not have a hope of stopping it.

Watching the wave of Cardinal and Gold eat up the blockers and provide safe passage for the running backs was a sight to be seen and something the modern USC fans would not mind having incorporated in today's offense.

Those Trojan teams had built a strong identity, and Bregel played a massive part in establishing it. He earned a first-team All-American selection twice as well as three All-Pac-10 selections. His junior and senior seasons saw him grab the first-team conference honors.

Time to see the former USC OL player inducted

While at USC, his talents and skill set stood out, not just on the West Coast but throughout the entirety of line play in the nation. In 1985, Bregal became the fourth USC player to earn the Morris Trophy, awarded to the best lineman in the conference. The defense and offense each have their separate distinction.

For Bregal it will be another opportunity to see his name enshrined in the sport's hall. When it happens, it will simply be a recognition of what already should have been.
