The continued push to artificially prop up the SEC has to stop. USC and the other former Pac-12 members joining the Big Ten has made it a coast-to-coast collection of teams that adds to what was already a deep pool of talent.

Now the travel schedule and changes in climate are significant factors of consideration that those pounding their chest from the likes of Alabama, or in this case Vanderbilt, do not ever have to consider.

As reported by On3 Sports, Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia made his stance crystal clear in regard to how he views the difference between the Southeastern Conference and the Big Ten. According to him, the run of games is significantly more demanding in the SEC due to the gauntlet of teams that present a challenge week after week.

While that may be true to an extent, it is not more true compared to what BIG programs have to face. If it is the case at all, it certainly is not a credit to Vanderbilt being a member of the conference. Yes, they beat Alabama last year, and the rest of the college football nation thanks them for not being forced to be subjected to the Crimson Tide's undeserved CFP appearance.

That does not mean that the SEC is inherently better than the Midwest or West Coast when it comes to talent and fielding teams.

If anything, the BIG is more grueling and demanding. Setting aside the travel aspect for a moment. The way in which teams in the Big Ten will try to make games a fight in the phone booth takes more out of players than an SEC conference that is increasingly becoming more happy to spread things out and feature the arm of the quarterback.

Even in a down year from a team like Iowa or Wisconsin, everyone knows that they will have to get ready for 60 minutes of a battle.

Known area of needed improvement that USC is addressing

In response, and something that coach Lincoln Riley has stated that he would have wanted to do anyway, the Trojans have focused a lot of their attention on boosting the offensive and defensive lines.

Winning the line of scrimmage is what allowed student body right to bring success in the past and an aspect that paved the way for the highly successful coach Pete Carroll's tenure. Everyone knows that the Big Ten is gaining relevance and the most recent past champions have come from that conference, an aspect that USC will soon be in a position to also compete for.
